Nutrition Facts label
A Nutrition Facts label shows nutrients for one serving. Calories round to the nearest 5 (up to 50) or 10; fat to 0.5 g under 5 g; sodium to 5 or 10 mg; %DV is based on a 2,000-calorie diet.

What each line on a Nutrition Facts label means
- Servings per container and serving size: serving sizes are based on the reference amounts in 21 CFR 101.12, shown in a household measure and grams.
- Calories: per serving, in large bold type.
- Total fat, saturated fat, trans fat, cholesterol, sodium, total carbohydrate, dietary fiber, total sugars, added sugars and protein: amounts per serving, most with a % Daily Value.
- Vitamin D, calcium, iron and potassium: the four required vitamins and minerals since the 2016 update.
- % Daily Value: how much one serving contributes to a 2,000-calorie daily diet.
The numbers are rounded using FDA rules in 21 CFR 101.9(c). For example calories round to the nearest 5 up to 50 and to the nearest 10 above that; fat under 5 g rounds to the nearest 0.5 g; sodium between 5 and 140 mg rounds to the nearest 5 mg.
